Council approves replacement hire for child support supervisor in prosecutor’s office

The Morgan County Council on Wednesday approved filling a supervisory position in the prosecutor’s child support division after the previous supervisor left the office.

A representative of the prosecutor’s office said the role supervises a six-person team, covers personnel and policy work and maintains a caseload while preparing quarterly and monthly reports to the state. “To date, we've collected 1,750,000 of child support. We over we have over 1,700 open cases,” the prosecutor’s office representative said.

The office told the council the supervisor position is essential to manage daily court calendars across several courts, prepare hearings and orders, and pursue criminal charges in some cases. The representative said the position yields federal reimbursement: “For every dollar we spend on child support, every dollar that comes out, we get 66% back in federal reimbursement,” the speaker said.

Council member Vicki Kivett moved to approve continuing to fill the supervisory position; Joe Krone seconded. The motion passed by voice vote.

Council members discussed a brief overlap period to allow the departing supervisor to orient a replacement. The office has permission to advertise the vacancy; the representative said they hoped for an experienced candidate but would consider a range of applicants. No change in salary was proposed; the council approved a one‑for‑one replacement.

The council approved the hire at the meeting as part of its new-business agenda and pledged to assist with staffing as the office recruits.
