Committee declares surplus equipment and votes to meet in executive session
Summary
On May 19 the Hingham School Committee declared several aging items surplus (copy machines and a broken water cooler) and voted to adjourn to executive session to approve prior executive-session minutes and discuss collective bargaining/litigation strategy.
The School Committee voted on May 19 to declare three copy machines and a broken water cooler surplus and authorized the executive director of business and student services to dispose of the items at least cost to the district.
The motion described the machines as at “the end of their lives” and the water cooler as broken; the committee approved the surplus declaration on a unanimous roll-call vote.
At the end of the public meeting the committee moved to adjourn to executive session under Massachusetts General Laws, chapter 30A, section 21(a)(3), to approve prior executive-session minutes and to conduct a strategy session with respect to collective bargaining or litigation, the public discussion of which would be detrimental to the committee’s bargaining position. The chair declared that the committee would not return to open session.
The motion to adjourn to executive session passed on a roll-call vote in which all members recorded “aye.”
