The Hingham School Committee voted on May 19 to form its 2025–26 subcommittees and to appoint school liaisons for the coming year.
Committee members discussed the scope and terms of liaison roles, including a nonvoting school committee appointee seat on the town Climate Action Community and reappointing a representative to the Human Rights Commission. The committee also discussed creating a volunteer applicant pool (a talent bank) for forthcoming building-committee roles related to roof and other capital projects.
The committee noted that the School Building Committee work will also coordinate with the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA), and that some appointments and volunteer recruitment may wait until the district hears back from MSBA (anticipated in the fall). Committee members suggested using an application process and a timeline (targeting October–November) to recruit residents for future building-committee roles.
Committee members agreed to “job share” liaison responsibilities where needed; for example, two members said they would share liaison duties for East Elementary because daytime meetings make single-member attendance difficult.
A motion to form the 2025–26 subcommittees passed on roll-call vote with all ayes. No dissenting votes or abstentions were recorded.
