Summary
District construction manager updated trustees on progress in the $300 million bond program, reporting near completion on one building, landscaping and turf work at others, and design development for a high school and elementary project.
East Central Independent School District staff reported construction progress on projects funded by the recently approved bond program, telling trustees that several campuses and support buildings are moving toward key completion milestones.
The update is consequential for next year’s operations because the district is preparing to open new or renovated facilities and move staff and students before the fall term.
Mr. Thomas told the board that one building is ready to open and staff will move teachers in over the next two weeks, with some exterior landscaping remaining. He said Valor Middle School is "on track and is moving along very well," with waterproofing, glass installation and HVAC work underway. For another campus (Victory), Mr. Thomas said "the last concrete pour is tomorrow morning," and two sections of a building are progressing rapidly.
District staff said the CTE building has visible structure and exterior metal panels being installed; they expect that building to be "dried in" with roof and exterior panels within about four weeks. The high school and a new elementary school (Elementary No. 10) are roughly 50% through design development; staff said they will request construction manager-at-risk (CMAR) approval for the high school next month with a goal of starting site work later in the calendar year.
No board action was required; the item was an informational construction update. Trustees asked a follow-up about a shared-door classroom standard; staff said they have discussed the issue and will follow up with additional study if the board desires.
