Elyria committee asks staff to seek quotes for street-scanning service after levy renewal

Elyria's Utilities, Environment and Safety Committee on May 21 voted to seek quotes for a street-scanning pavement-inspection service and to bring comparable options back for committee consideration, after members said the tool could improve street-selection decisions.
Mr. Pajanoski (committee liaison) said the committee had previously discussed the service in early spring and that he had held the effort until May. He described an initial quote of about $50,000 for the first year and said follow-up years might be roughly $12,000 each, though he said he would confirm final pricing. "The 1 quote that we had was approximately $50,000, and it's for a 3 year commitment," he said.
Members said they wanted to see multiple vendors and demonstrations. Councilman Stewart and others described the service as a useful tool to supplement engineers' judgment and to provide a consistent, data-driven starting point for street selection. Councilman Armstrong cautioned the committee about equipment upgrades and timing, asking staff to ensure the city buys a system that will not be obsolete shortly after purchase.
The committee asked staff to obtain additional quotes, arrange demonstrations where practical and return to the committee with two or three recommended options for review. A motion to pursue quotes and bring vendor options back was moved and seconded and carried by voice vote.
