The Portage City Planning Commission approved a site plan for a small pavilion-style structure — described in the meeting as a "pie barn" — at the VFW Post site on West Conant Street.
City staff said the Cleary Crutch VFW Post 1707 submitted a site plan for a modest structure roughly 20 by 12 by 15 feet mounted on a concrete base. Staff reported the structure meets setback requirements and recommended approval as submitted.
Commissioners noted the location is the same area where pies have been sold at summer concerts and that the structure replaces prior temporary setups such as tents or tables. A commissioner who said they have purchased pies at that site made the motion to approve; another commissioner seconded. The roll call recorded Feeney, Paul, Egan, Voss, Matt Kreiner and Sulik voting yes and the chair announced the motion carries.
The approval covers the site plan as presented; no additional conditions were noted in the record.
