The Anacortes City Council voted unanimously Monday to approve the purchase of a front‑load solid waste truck for $490,490.58 and to authorize the mayor to sign the purchase order with Western Peterbilt Inc.
Public Works staff described the acquisition as a standard replacement on a seven‑year lifecycle; the new vehicle will replace truck ERR5002 and the outgoing unit will go to the city’s vehicle replacement fund. Public Works reported the city currently operates four similar trucks in the solid‑waste fleet and that the replacement fits established fleet budgeting.
Councilmember Fantini moved to approve the purchase; Councilmember McDougall seconded. The motion carried on an audible roll call. Councilmembers voting yes included Fantini, McDougall, Walters, Hubig and Seabeck; three members (Young, Cleland McGrath and Moulton) had been excused earlier in the meeting.
No additional conditions or amendments were attached to the approval, and staff said the replacement fund can accommodate the purchase. The council did not discuss alternative procurement options during the item.
