Chief John Cartledge reported that over five years there were two collisions—one with damage over $1,000 and another under $1,000. A covert speed device recorded speeds from Oct. 20–26, 2024, sampling 6,166 vehicles; the chief said the average speed was 24 mph and the 80th percentile was 29.1 mph on a road with an effective 25 mph limit.
"The speed limit on this road is 20 miles per hour," one commissioner observed; the chief clarified no official posted speed regulation was on Front Street and that the street is treated as 25 mph under local rules. Commissioners said the nearby reconstruction of Florence Street presents an opportunity to study calming options at the skewed intersection of Florence and Front and up the hill where the road is steep and windy.
No formal action was taken; staff said they will include Front Street considerations as they develop plans for the adjacent resurfacing and will return with recommendations.
