The Cape Girardeau 63 school board approved the district 2025
26 salary schedules at its May meeting and received an update on a long-range fiscal plan intended to support ongoing employee compensation increases.
The board motion to adopt the salary schedules passed by voice vote; board members present said
approved.
The district CSIP lead presented a long-range goal to "develop a long range fiscal plan to address employee compensation," noting a target to "increase certified base salary 10% every year" and listing steps including expenditure analysis and use of comparative salary reports. The CSIP lead also reported the board-approved minimum fund balance is 22% and said the district was "at . . . last year at 37%, so we're well above that." (Transcript excerpted.)
Career ladder results were presented as part of the compensation discussion. Doctor Beck reported 29 teachers completed career ladder this year out of 34 initial applications. The report listed payouts by stage: seven participants at Stage 1 (stipend $1,500), eight at Stage 2 ($3,000), and 14 at Stage 3 ($5,000). The district contribution was reported as $41,800 and the state's contribution as $62,700. "This is a great program for our teachers," Doctor Beck said, and noted the grant is a 60/40 match (60% state, 40% district).
The treasurer's April report provided administrative detail on cash flows and transfers. The treasurer reported a transfer of $1 million to the special revenue fund to cover certified staff salaries and benefits and an ending general-fund cash and investment balance presented in the packet.
Board members said they plan continued analysis and staff outreach to monitor affordability and to develop forecasting tools for multi-year salary planning.
The board did not adopt new policy changes in the meeting beyond approving the salary schedules; staff were directed to continue planning and provide additional financial forecasting.
