District adopts Amplify for grades 7–8 to align K–8 reading curriculum with science of reading

Doctor Milliman said the adoption aligns with the state’s move toward science-of-reading approaches and will let the district provide consistent instructional materials rather than asking teachers to curate separate resources. "There'll be growing pains," he said, noting the need for professional learning and classroom alignment as teachers adopt the new materials.
The administration told the board the state’s reimbursement structure for instructional materials made the purchase feasible and that adding grades 7–8 to Amplify reduces the burden on teachers by providing a common scope and sequence across middle and elementary classrooms. The board approved the implementation motion by voice vote.
What comes next: the district will roll out professional development and supports for teachers as they transition to the Amplify materials for grades 7–8 and coordinate alignment with existing K–6 instruction.
