Parks staff told the Ashwaubenon Park and Recreation Board on May 20 that the village has been awarded a $50,000 grant toward a proposed bandshell project and that three private donors have pledged sizable contributions. A parks staff member reported that Aaron Schutte and Marcus (last name not provided) originally applied for the grant. The staff member said the village has not made an official press announcement and is still finishing designs and gathering cost estimates. The grants and donor funds, the staff member said, could be used in several ways depending on final costs, including paying for site work or funding shade structures at Klipstein Park if budgets allow.
Staff noted that the bandshell site is an “open spoils” area with material from prior construction; some of that material will need to be contained or used on-site, which affects project scope and costs. The grant is expected to reduce the village’s share of site-work expenses but the board was told final dollar amounts and how the grant will be applied are still under review.
The item will go to the Village Board for potential approval at the next meeting; no binding contracts or construction authorizations were approved by the Park Board on May 20.
