Board approves consent agenda including Vashti convenience‑site lease, tax refunds, records destruction and voter equipment upgrades

Bechtel told the board the tax administrator identified over‑assessments that generated refund requests: one refund totaling $118.25 for property assessments and an additional $958.60 for vehicle‑related refunds (10 vehicles total; reasons included a sale, a totaled vehicle, over‑assessment and surrendered tags). The total refund amount presented was $1,076.85.
The consent agenda included renewal of the lease for the Vashti solid waste convenience site for the period Jan. 1, 2025, through Dec. 31, 2026. The county attorney negotiated and finalized the lease; the county will pay an additional $500 per year for that location, Bechtel said, and she was authorized to execute the lease on the board’s behalf.
Bechtel also presented scheduled records disposal under North Carolina’s records retention requirements: applications for employment from January 2023 through June 2025 (to be destroyed after the end of June) and random drug testing records for safety‑sensitive commercial driver license positions from 2021–2023. Finally, Bechtel said minimal upgrades to existing voter equipment are planned and that Homeland Security grant funding will cover the work, requiring no county funds.
A motion to approve the consent agenda was made, seconded and carried by unanimous voice vote. No items were pulled for separate discussion in the public record.
