After the closed session the board returned to open session and President Barnes (the board president) summarized the outcome, saying the board conducted Barnett's evaluation "based on the criteria for the superintendent's evaluation criteria set forth with the State Department of Education" and that the board had determined Barnett "exceeds all expectations." Board members spoke in praise of Barnett's leadership and pointed to recent district performance as evidence of the work they described.
Barnett was present and thanked the board for the recognition. Board members emphasized that strong leadership supports the district's operations, with one member saying, "If you have a good superintendent, I think the system kinda sits on autopilot. And, you're doing a good job. You're hands on, and, it shows."
The board did not record a separate formal vote on the evaluation itself in open session; the determination was announced after the executive session. No written evaluation report was presented during open session. The board scheduled no additional action in open session related to the evaluation during the meeting.
The executive session had been authorized by a 5-0 roll call vote. The board announced the evaluation result at the end of the meeting and expressed appreciation for Barnett's leadership.
Barnett will return to open meetings and will receive a more detailed presentation of district data at an upcoming board meeting, where members said they expect to review assessment results and other performance measures in greater detail.
