Resident urges district planning after public comment highlighting projected enrollment growth and housing developments

During public comment at the May meeting, resident Nick Grock of Malvern presented data on housing developments and district capacity and urged the board to begin facility planning.

Grock said Great Valley High School has a functional capacity of "approximately 1,754 students" and cited an enrollment figure of 1,403 for 2024–25, which he described as roughly an 80 percent utilization rate. He told the board a comprehensive analysis suggests roughly 900 additional students district‑wide could arrive over the next five years because of accelerating residential development, and that East Whiteland Township alone accounts for about "493 proposed single family residential units." Grock warned that a gain of about 351 high‑school students would exceed current high‑school capacity and asked whether the district has undertaken detailed grade‑level projections and coordinated development data with local planning boards.

Grock asked three specific questions: whether the district has performed grade‑level projections for incoming students; whether there is a centralized, comprehensive understanding of approved and pending residential development in district boundaries; and whether the district maintains consistent, transparent communications with township planning boards so stakeholders remain aligned.

Board members did not provide detailed responses during the public comment period. The comment was entered into the record and a district official later noted that planning and budgeting items will continue through the posted budget and future meetings.
