The University Heights Planning Commission voted to recommend City Council adopt Ordinance 2025‑57, which would add a zoning prohibition on the manufacture, distribution, storage and wholesale retailing of professional fireworks within the city.
Staff explained the referral from council asked the planning commission to review the proposed zoning language. Commissioners said they had no objection to the prohibition on professional fireworks facilities in the city’s compact, residential fabric. Several commissioners clarified the ordinance targets large‑scale manufacturing or warehousing of fireworks and not small consumer novelty items sold at retail.
The commission’s recommendation will be forwarded to City Council for final action.
