Council approves $72,006 sign contract for Pervis Park; electrical work left for follow-up

Council members and staff told the council Ellet was the lowest and best bidder and had manufactured other city signs, and Guide Studio had project-managed the design. Mayor Ginsburg said Ellet “also did the other signs around the community” and recommended approval. Councilmember King raised a concern that electrical work was out of the sign fabricator’s scope and asked how the city would run power to the sign. The building department confirmed an application for a permit had been filed and that an electrical permit and separate contractor would be required.
Councilmember Weiser and others pressed for coordination so the sign would be ready for the swim season. Councilmembers discussed whether to bundle the fabrication and electrical work, with Councilmember Sachs saying she wanted the “whole cost to make sure that it can be done and it can be coordinated so the sign can be ready.” Mayor Ginsburg said the city owns an adjacent strip of land and that trenching from the pool would make electrification feasible and asked Guide Studio to provide at least two bids for the electrical work.
A motion to accept the Ellet bid was made and seconded; the roll call vote recorded five ayes and two nays: King Aye; Sacks Nay; Cooney Aye; Wise Aye; Wright Nay; Marshall Aye; Weiser Aye. The motion passed. Council asked administration to report back with electrical estimates and schedules at the next meeting.
Council members emphasized they wanted the sign fabricated without delay but that the administration should confirm whether the sign can be powered in time. No amendment to the contract adding electrical work was adopted during the meeting.
