Scott Gordon told the council about neighborhood safety efforts he has led near North Northwest Boulevard, describing efforts to slow traffic and his experience advocating for neighborhood signs. He said painted bike lanes "would serve not only as a safe area for all people to ride, it would also act as a traffic calming measure." Gordon described buying and installing temporary signs to request slower speeds and working with city streets staff and the neighborhood council to resolve the issue.
Cole Swinson said he moved to Spokane in 2019 and described cycling as "affordable" and "accessible," arguing infrastructure should serve families and older residents as well as fit, experienced riders. Swinson said a two-pronged outreach plan — mapping local bike infrastructure and organizing neighborhood rides — could help more people choose cycling.
Council members thanked both candidates and said they looked forward to the applicants serving if appointed; no appointment vote occurred during the briefing.
