Cathcart said the project came out of collaboration among the Northeast Community Center, the zone project and local stakeholders after a school construction program co-located the library with Shaw Middle School following a prior levy and bond. The council members said the conversion aimed to improve health access for students and residents while creating safer streets and traffic-calming measures in the immediate area.
Bridal and Cathcart also referenced separate small-scale safety work near Regal Elementary that adjusted crossings on Wellesley to improve student travel; Cathcart described the timing and coordination with school staff as enabling those changes.
No ordinance or budget vote was taken during the update; council members presented the repurposing as a completed local partnership rather than a new council action. Residents seeking specifics on services or clinic hours were directed to contact council offices or MultiCare.
