Commerce sells surplus fire quint to Ouachita Parish for $400,000, council approves interlocal agreement
Summary
The council approved an interlocal agreement to sell the city’s surplus Quint 1 fire truck to Ouachita Parish for $400,000. Chief Bassin said the amount reflects the market and the truck will be sold “as is.” Funds were not earmarked to the new truck purchase, which had been ordered separately.
The Commerce City Council approved an interlocal agreement to sell the city’s surplus Quint 1 aerial fire truck to Ouachita Parish for $400,000.
Fire Chief Bassin told the council the department had ordered a replacement vehicle and the surplus Quint had reached the end of its useful life under NFPA standards. He said the department had contacted national vendors that market used apparatus and that one firm offered to market the unit on behalf of the city; the firm estimated a fair market price of about $400,000. Bassin said the city had previously sold two other pieces of surplus apparatus.
Council approved the interlocal agreement by voice vote. Chief Bassin said the sale price will not be applied to the new truck purchase; the new apparatus had already been ordered and will undergo final inspection in June.
Bassin described the sale as “as is,” and noted hose and some equipment will be removed from the unit prior to transfer.
