Board approves Pathways adult high-school applications; bill to extend age to 30 noted

The EPIC ONE ON ONE CHARTER SCHOOL board on May 15 approved applications for the Pathways adult high-school completion program for the 2024–25 and 2025–26 school years and discussed state legislation that could expand eligibility for virtual programs.
Board members moved to approve the 2024–25 Pathways applications and then the 2025–26 applications. Votes were recorded in favor on roll calls for both approvals. For the 2024–25 approval, Miss Berry, Miss Casper, Mr. Hammonds, Miss Myers and Mr. Bell voted yes. The same members recorded yes votes on the 2025–26 approvals.
At the meeting, Superintendent Bart Banfield told the board he had been informed that the Oklahoma Legislature had approved and sent to the governor “Senate Bill 7745,” which, as described in the meeting, would extend the age of students a virtual public school can serve from 26 to 30. Banfield said the district was “extremely excited” and hopeful the governor would sign the bill so EPIC could accept students up to age 30 for the next year.
Board discussion included a brief comment about potential Medicaid work requirements and the importance of adults having capacity to finish their high-school education; that comment appeared during the Pathways discussion but was attributable to a board member speaking without a formal motion attached.
