Council approves $250,000 for riverfront master plan; staff asked to return with timeline and deliverables

The Parks and Neighborhoods committee forwarded a resolution on May 20 to allocate $250,000 from FY2025 CIP funds (PK12014) to a riverfront master plan project (PK25105). Interim Parks Director Marcia Allen told the committee the funding will pay for a comprehensive riverfront architecture and engineering master plan spanning the stretch from MLK Boulevard to the visitor center.
Allen said the city has engaged MFA and LT Marshall (and team) to develop a more connected, comprehensive plan for the riverfront and that the $250,000 is intended to cover initial architecture and engineering work. She did not provide a firm project timeline at the briefing and told committee members staff are still developing a schedule.
Councilwoman Logan asked for a timeline, expected deliverables and a schedule for consultant presentations; the committee requested that consultants return to the next meeting to present the scope and timetable. Committee members voted to forward the allocation with a favorable recommendation; staff were asked to return with more detailed answers at the next committee meeting before the council’s final vote.
