Mohave County Superior Court held an adult recovery court commencement recognizing participants who completed the county’s treatment-court program in Bullhead City, Lake Havasu and Kingman. Superior Court Judge Rick Williams, who helps run the program, told the audience the local recovery court began in Kingman in January 2012 and is designed for people assessed as moderate- to high-risk and moderate- to high-need.
The ceremony underscored how intensive the program is and why staff call graduation a milestone. “It’s about the toughest program there is in the criminal justice system,” Judge Rick Williams said, describing a regimen that typically includes random drug testing at least twice a week, weekly meetings with probation officers and hundreds of hours of programming ranging from substance-use treatment to GED and work-readiness training.
