Superintendent Tully told the Northshore School District board at a retreat that district departments are preparing concise briefings and building summaries to help incoming superintendent Dr. Irish become familiar with the system and priorities.
"They are due to the Superintendent's Office on May 22," Tully said of the department one‑page documents that will include budget, staff, strengths, weaknesses, current initiatives and near‑term plans. The documents will be compiled as an entry/exit packet for the incoming superintendent.
Why it matters: Board members said an orderly onboarding will let Dr. Irish meet key community members and learn the history behind major programs, bonds and past policy decisions without being overloaded on day one.
Tully described the package as a set of "one‑pagers" for each department and building: budget and staffing details, a SWOT analysis, key initiatives and next‑year priorities. Building summaries will include principal names, student counts and basic performance snapshots so that executive directors can brief the superintendent before site visits. Tully said Dr. Irish is scheduled to begin entry work in the district during the coming weeks and to be on site starting June 4.
Board members suggested specific topics and introductions for the entry plan: background on the 2022 bonds and levies and the decisions behind capital planning; introductions to municipal partners in Snohomish and King counties; key community liaisons and advisory bodies such as the Capital Planning Task Force, TAC and student advisory groups; and histories of programs including the Bear Creek Campus, the Innovation Lab and the dual‑language program at Wooden.
Deputy Superintendent Bergey and the communications team will develop a phased transition plan for July through December that prioritizes early meetings and rolls out additional introductions over time. Carrie Campbell from communications will help produce an editable draft so board members can add items and suggest contacts.
Board policy work was also flagged: President Castell noted that the board annually reviews board‑superintendent relationship policies and role policies and recommended an August retreat with Dr. Irish to review those policies and set expectations.
Next steps: departments will finish briefings by May 22; communications will circulate a draft entry plan for board input; staff will schedule introduction meetings and school visits for Dr. Irish beginning in early June.
