The Enid City Commission on May 20 approved a lease-termination agreement with Family Dollar Stores of Oklahoma LLC that pays the tenant $150,000 to vacate a city-owned property by Aug. 31, 2025. The city had owned the building and the existing lease was set to expire Dec. 31, 2027; city staff presented the negotiated early termination as a way to regain control of the site sooner.
At the meeting, a city staff member identified as Carol said the city has owned the Family Dollar property for many years and that the negotiated early termination opens the downtown site for redevelopment. “They have agreed to vacate the property by 08/31/2025, and we have agreed to pay them a hundred and $50,000 to let us have it about 2 years early,” Carol said.
City officials noted the agreement removes a long-standing lease that had constrained redevelopment options for the block. Commissioners approved the termination 6–0 and authorized the mayor to execute the necessary documents. The staff presentation said the lease termination is tied to downtown planning and does not itself commit the city to a specific redevelopment plan; subsequent actions related to demolition and sale were discussed in a separate agenda item.
