Kane County transportation staff briefed the committee on multiple ongoing projects, safety upgrades and upcoming public meetings.
Operations staff said roughly 98% of the county's streetlights have been converted to LED and that the county recently replaced several arterial cameras and is designing a redundant connection to the arterial operations center. "About 98% of the streetlights in the county are now LED," a staff update said.
Project staff provided construction photos showing ongoing Longmeadow Parkway landscaping work, the LaFox Road pedestrian underpass where KDOT will make summer repairs, and the Kesselinger Road box culvert scheduled for modification next month. Staff said the Bunker Road extension and roundabout project is expected to be a two-season construction effort.
Staff also reported installation of over 35 miles of new recessed reflective pavement markers (RRPMs) so far and said the RRPM program is about 90% federally funded through HSIP; staff said they hope to install at least 50 miles of RRPMs this summer.
Additionally, staff announced a public meeting scheduled for June 24 for the Galligan Road (Freeman to Binney) project and noted the project manager assigned to that corridor.
Next steps: staff will continue construction oversight, finalize public-meeting details for Galligan Road, and proceed with RRPM installations and arterial operations upgrades.
