Kane County legislative committee approves ordinance amending committee language, forwards to executive committee

KANE COUNTY — The Kane County Legislative Committee on May 21 voted unanimously to approve an ordinance amending section 2-48 of the Kane County Code to revise language related to the county’s executive and legislative committees and forwarded the ordinance to the county executive committee for further consideration.
The measure, described at the meeting as aligning committee language with the county’s current committee structure and with changes previously recommended by the jobs committee, received no substantive debate before a roll-call vote. Committee members Doherty, Molina, Strathman, Linder, Roth and Gums each voted yes.
Committee staff said the ordinance is largely technical and intended to make the county code consistent with committee practices. The committee chair noted that the draft “is basically falling in line with exactly what the jobs committee did,” and then entertained a motion to move the ordinance. Committee member Strathman moved the motion and Linder seconded it; the committee took a roll-call vote and approved the ordinance unanimously.
The chair instructed that the approved ordinance be forwarded to the executive committee. Committee members also reported ongoing work with the county’s outside counsel, McGuireWoods, and with department directors to prepare and review legislative language. The committee noted that the county telecom supervisor, Ms. Guthrie, has requested additional legislation and that staff will coordinate drafting with her office.
Other routine business at the brief meeting included unanimous consent to approve minutes from the April 16 meeting and a motion to place reports on file. No members requested an executive session, and the meeting adjourned after about four minutes.
The ordinance will next be considered by the Kane County executive committee; no public hearings, effective dates or budget impacts were stated at the legislative committee meeting.
