Commission places 4-way stop request at Henry and Mellon on file after staff review

The staff member said volume and crash warrants were not met and that the street resurfacing had led some residents to perceive increased speeds.
Commission members discussed whether the underlying problem was speeding rather than the absence of a stop sign. One commission member said, "It feels more like a traffic calming question than should we put in a stop sign or not," and another emphasized vulnerability of bicyclists, saying "29 miles per hour, on my bicycle is a lethal speed for a car to hit me at." Staff recommended using the department's new data tools to check speeds and crash history before conducting a formal traffic-calming study.
The commission motioned, seconded and voted to "receive and place on file" the request, directing staff to proceed only if the commission later requests a formal study or if new crash data emerges.
