Chair Sosa opened a work session and the committee moved Senate Bill 872A to the House floor with a due-pass recommendation. The bill, described to the committee by staff, authorizes the Oregon Mortuary and Cemetery Board to issue reprimands, limit licenses, place conditions of probation, impose emergency suspensions and increase the per-violation civil penalty cap to $5,000. Committee staff said the measure has a minimal fiscal impact and minimal revenue impact; the Senate voted 22–7 on the measure.
The committee took a roll-call vote after no extended discussion. Representative Chodson, Representative Reschke, Representative Wallen, Representative Walters, Vice Chair Chi Chi, Vice Chair Osborne and Chair Sosa recorded affirmative votes; one member was excused. Chair Sosa announced the motion passed and that Representative Reschke would be the bill carrier on the House floor.
No substantive amendments or directions to staff were recorded during the work session; the committee closed the work session after advancing the bill.
