The Madison Plan Commission on May 19 voted as part of a consent agenda to refer consideration of a proposed five‑story mixed‑use building at 4506–4514 Verona Road to the commission’s June 9 meeting at the applicant’s request.
The proposal is described in the meeting materials as a conditional use in a commercial‑center district to allow dwelling units in a mixed‑use building. The application includes 93 apartments and commercial space; the transcript lists the commercial size as “3 24 square feet,” which was unclear in the audio record. Director Megan Tuttle told the commission that written comments and registrations submitted for the May 19 meeting will remain part of the public record and be carried forward to the June 9 hearing.
The referral was included in the consent agenda approved unanimously. Alder Field moved to approve the consent agenda and Commissioner Mendez seconded; the chair called for unanimous approval and the motion passed with no objections.
Director Tuttle said registrants for the item who wish to speak at the June 9 meeting must re‑register and that registration for the June 9 meeting will open on Thursday, June 5. “Any written comments that have been submitted already, as well as folks who registered any opposition or support for that project tonight, all that information will still be part of the record from tonight's meeting,” Tuttle said.
The commission’s secretary said the June 9 meeting will be held virtually at 5:30 p.m.; members were reminded that a special in‑person meeting is scheduled for Monday, June 2 at 5:00 p.m. in Room 215 of the Madison Municipal Building.
The commission did not discuss the substance of the Verona Road application at the May 19 meeting; discussion and a decision on the conditional‑use request will occur at or after the June 9 hearing when the item is taken up.
