Police, federal agencies investigating homemade explosive near East Miami River Road, fire lieutenant says

Lieutenant Dan of the Miami Township fire department told the Village of North Bend council on May 19 that a small, homemade explosive device detonated on East Miami River Road and that federal investigators are involved.
“The little that I do know that, it was a homemade, bomb,” Lieutenant Dan said. He told the council that FBI and ATF agents were investigating, local sheriff’s units provided initial information from the scene, and that the device was located outside in a yard area behind Kevin’s Tree Service where equipment is stored.
The lieutenant said investigators had a person of interest in mind because similar incidents had occurred elsewhere in Ohio, but he cautioned investigators were still establishing whether the events were connected. He said the sheriff’s office and federal agents were leading the inquiry and that the village would seek follow‑up information from the county sheriff as the investigation progressed.
Councilors asked whether the device detonated inside a house or outside; the lieutenant said it occurred in a yard behind a business. He also described the initial call categorization as a hazardous condition, explaining that such entries can cover a wide range of situations until the incident is confirmed by responding crews.
No arrests, charges or formal investigative findings were reported to the council at the meeting.
