The mayor said the city had retained a federal appropriations firm to pursue the community development grant category. He reported the appropriations committee had approved the request at full funding and included it in the bill that would go before Congress, but the continuing resolution ultimately excluded community development appropriations. Because Haslet is eligible only for community development‑category projects for that vehicle, the city opted not to pursue further congressional community development grants this cycle.
Given the absence of available funding and the time and expense involved in pursuing such appropriations, the mayor said he would notify the retained firm this week with a 30‑day termination of the engagement. The mayor also noted that, if appropriations opportunities change, the city could revisit federal advocacy in a future cycle; for now, Haslet will cease the current federal appropriations effort tied to this firm.
