Board approves raises for support staff, bus drivers and substitute pay changes

Under the approved plan, many support staff groups will receive a $1-per-hour increase; administrators presented the cost for that group as $114,133. The board also approved raising the regular route daily pay for bus drivers by $0.50 (to $23.52 daily, as presented), and the district increased the external substitute daily rate from $130 to $140. The total projected budget impact the administration presented for the combined groups was approximately $116,484.65, with a separate $15,740 impact tied to external substitute coverage.
Administrators said the adjustments aim to improve recruitment and retention for positions that have lagged relative to comparable local pay scales, and that the increases were recommended after HR committee review.
A motion to approve the wage changes was made, seconded and carried. Board members asked for confirmation of budget impacts and voiced support for addressing pay compression among support roles; staff said these measures were part of broader compensation tracking and would be reflected in next year’s budget documents.
