Liberty Public Schools used the board meeting to honor staff and student achievements, spotlighting a district support-employee of the year, a school counselor award, a state library recognition and multiple state speech and debate champions.
The board recognized Doctor Rob Fisher for being named Greater Kansas City Counselor and Director of the Year by the Greater Kansas City School Counselors Association. The district also announced Vera Holloman as the 2025 Liberty Public Schools District Support Employee of the Year; Holloman serves as the district's nutrition services quality assurance manager and has worked for the district since 1998.
A representative of the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, Lisa Scroggs, presented recognition to Megan Bright and the Liberty Middle School library team for earning DESE's Exemplary School Library designation. "They had to score 90% of points possible in the areas of instruction, leadership, library environment, library management, and staffing," Scroggs said, noting the competitive statewide process.
The board also acknowledged state championships and top finishes for speech and debate teams at Liberty High and Liberty North, naming individual student champions and coaches. The meeting included a short video of student competitors and on-stage recognition; coaches David Dempsey and Mick Turpin were present to accept the board's thanks.
Board members and staff applauded recipients; no formal board action was required for the recognitions. The district said press releases and social-media posts with additional details will be posted to its website.
