The San Rafael City Schools board discussed possible changes to its meeting calendar on May 19, including moving regular meetings off Monday evenings and adding a scheduled study session immediately before some business meetings.
Staff presented three options for the 2025‑26 calendar: keep meetings on the second and fourth Mondays; move meetings to Tuesdays; or keep Monday meetings for one year and plan a move to Thursdays in 2026‑27 to provide staff and trustees more weekday review time. Trustees generally favored moving meetings to Tuesdays and expressed support for an optional 4 p.m. study session before regularly scheduled meetings so the board could review materials and pose questions in advance.
Trustee Lau said he preferred Tuesday meetings and supported the 4 p.m. study session, noting the schedule shift would give board members and staff more time to coordinate. Trustee Kerner also supported the Tuesday timing and the early study session idea. Staff will return with a final calendar for the 2025‑26 school year at the June 9 meeting after incorporating trustee feedback.
