Council moves Promise Scholarship funds to pay summer interns

The Michigan City Common Council approved a resolution Tuesday to increase and decrease appropriations within the Promise Scholarship Fund (2312) for 2025, moving funds from contractual services into salaries, wages and FICA to pay interns.
Sponsor remarks described the action as an internal transfer of existing budgeted dollars to enable payment of interns who will work over the summer. "This is not new money. It's just coming out of contractual services, and it will be put down at the salaries and wages and FICA," the sponsor said, and noted the council performed a similar adjustment the prior year.
The resolution drew no public comment and passed on a unanimous roll call vote with eight in favor. The transfer provides the administrative authority for the department to hire and pay interns this season; no additional appropriation from outside the fund was requested.
