Regional fire district asks county auditor to certify proceeds for possible 3.5-mill levy

The fire district reported to Golf Manor council on May 19 that its board passed a resolution requesting the county auditor to certify the proceeds of a proposed additional 3.5-mill levy.
During the fire district report, the chief said the board had instructed staff to ask the county auditor for a certification of proceeds for a 3.5-mill levy and expected the auditorto return figures within 10 business days. "The board kicked around a few ideas, and we ended up passing a resolution to ask the county auditor to certify what the proceeds would be for a 3.5 mil additional levy," the chief said.
The chief told council the district had not yet decided to place the levy on the ballot; the board is scheduled to make that decision at a June meeting at the fire station. If the board authorizes placing the levy before the ballot deadline, the levy would appear on the November ballot.
The fire district also reported vehicle delivery timelines for new medic units and said operational discussions about the levy and service levels would continue as they work through budget implications. The district emphasized the levy is being considered to maintain solvency and service levels and that official action to place the levy on the ballot would be a separate board decision.
