St. John approves summer contractor agreements and hires event coordinator for community center

The Town of St. John Park and Recreation Board on May 20 approved a slate of independent-contractor agreements for summer programming and retroactively approved an event coordinator contract for the community center.
The board approved independent-contractor agreements for summer camp counselors (Chloe Little, Ryan Dotty, Raya Dotty, Isabella Bracken, Sam Casapales, Ava Kulig, Luke Dragos and Tegan Pollock), sand-volleyball referees (Ella Wallendy, Riley Torme, Victoria Chavez, Isabella Sarkey and Aubrey Hester), tennis-camp instructor Jillian Sanders, and music instructor Aaron Harris for guitar and ukulele lessons. The board also approved Daniel Cole Daley to perform at the 2025 farmers market. All listed contracts were approved on 4-0 votes.
The board retroactively approved an independent-contractor agreement for Brooklyn Bain as event coordinator for the community center with a May 1 start date. Sam (parks staff) described the role as a contractual position through December to plan eight events not already handled by the parks department and to manage bookings for residents and nonresidents. Board members asked whether the position was full time; Sam said Bain would work "full time, but independent contractor" during the contract period and that, if both parties agreed after the trial period, there was the possibility of hiring the coordinator full time as an employee.
Motions approving the listed contractor agreements were moved and seconded on the record and carried unanimously. No compensation rates were read into the record at the meeting. Staff said registration for youth and adult volleyball ends the Friday following the meeting and reminded residents that Gates Pickleball Courts will hold a grand opening on June 27.
The board approved payment of accounts-payable vouchers dated May 20, 2025. The transcript contains two slightly different amounts reported for the voucher total ($97,137.73 and $97,130.07); the motion to approve the vouchers carried 4-0.
