Council establishes Economic Development and Measure P advisory committees

The council adopted resolutions formally creating an Escalon Economic Development Committee and a Measure P Advisory Committee and approved short policies describing each committee’s purpose, membership and operating procedures.
Staff told the council each committee will be five members: the Economic Development Committee will include two council members and three business/community representatives and will advise council on economic development priorities consistent with the city’s strategic plan. The Measure P Advisory Committee will be five city residents and registered voters; staff said its purpose is to solicit community ideas and advise council on potential Measure P expenditures.
Staff emphasized these votes established the committees and policies only; appointments will not be made at the May 20 meeting. The city will accept applications and hold interviews at future meetings (staff said interviews for the economic development committee are scheduled for the June 16 meeting and the Measure P call for applicants closes this week). The policies set terms, quorum rules and reporting expectations and call for periodic meetings, likely monthly.
Council members moved, seconded and the council voted unanimously to adopt both resolutions; no nays were recorded. Staff will post application materials and conduct the advertised appointment process before presenting nominees for council confirmation.
