Public Works staff thanked the council and described recent high‑profile responses, including assistance at a train‑versus‑pedestrian incident on BNSF tracks and county traffic collisions where Public Works supplied equipment and traffic control. Staff said the department has many long‑tenured employees and noted the team’s collaboration with city management.
Staff announced a Blue Star Memorial will be installed at the community center corner of Arthur and Escalante (the community center site) with a small dedication; public works led landscaping and lighting work for the marker. Staff said some funds used for landscaping came from Measure P to help demonstrate community investments.
Separately, staff reviewed the city’s updated approved tree list (adopted in 2023 with consultant CSG and local landscape firms) and said staff plans to remove 10–12 large sycamore trees on Main Street north of First Street because they are too large for the right‑of‑way and to replace them with species similar to those used south of First. Staff emphasized that while the city prescribes appropriate species and planting methods, maintaining young street trees is the homeowner’s responsibility and the city will consider providing informational materials on proper early care.
Council members and the police chief offered public thanks to Public Works; staff reminded the public of the Blue Star Memorial dedication and upcoming farmers market.
