Board approves permanent memorial plaque at Jordan Vocational High to honor John Bart Herbert Steed

The Muscogee County Board of Education voted May 19 to approve placement of a permanent memorial plaque on the campus of Jordan Vocational High School College and Career Academy in honor of John Bart Herbert Steed.
The board’s motion, made by Mr. Cantrell and seconded by Ms. Jackson, passed during the action agenda. The recommendation described Steed as a long-time supporter of the school’s automotive programs and career-technical education.
Family members accepted the recognition and several speakers recalled Steed’s community service. Patrick Steed, identified as Steed’s son, told the board that his father “put forth his life to the succession of the kids in the school district” and that students were Steed’s priority.
Several board members and school leaders also spoke, thanking the family and noting Steed’s long-standing attendance at school board meetings and support for Jordan programs. Ryan Willoughby, introduced as Jordan’s CEO, and Jordan principal Ryan Hudson participated in the remarks and planning for a dedication.
The plaque will be installed on the Jordan Vocational High School College and Career Academy campus at 3200 Howard Avenue; the board indicated there will be a dedication ceremony and said staff will coordinate details with the family and school leadership.
The board treated the memorial plaque approval as a formal action item; no appeal or amendment was recorded at the meeting.
