Board ratifies classified-staff agreements, approves district operational contracts and activity permissions

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio — The Mount Vernon City School Board on Monday ratified multi-year bargaining agreements with classified employees and approved a package of operational contracts and activity permissions for district programs.
A representative for the classified employees told the board the Ohio Association of Public School Employees unit ratified its three-year contract at the local level on March 11. "We ratified our contract on March 11, and I will tell you it was a unanimous vote," the representative said.
Superintendent Bill Seager and board members thanked bargaining-unit leadership for negotiating in good faith. The board then voted to ratify the agreements on its agenda; the roll call recorded majority support with one abstention.
In the same meeting the board approved a set of operational items on the consent agenda. Those items included facility-use and event permissions for FFA activities and the Ohio Envirothon contest, an updated food-service agreement with Aramark, a Knox County Educational Service Center primary-services agreement and existing cooperative arrangements such as a catastrophic-event support agreement. The board approved those items by roll call.
Board members described the contract approvals as timely for budgeting and payroll planning. No changes to district policy were announced in the meeting; personnel and supplemental-contract approvals for certified and classified staff were handled as routine agenda items.
