The Cumming City Council on a unanimous vote approved a contract with AHC Contracting for $83,400 to remodel two family restrooms and the main lobby at Dobbs Creek Recreation Center.
City staff described the project as an update to a facility built in 2001 that has seen little renovation. A staff member said the work will open the lobby for better traffic flow, remove interior doors and relocate vending machines, replace tile flooring to improve safety and maintenance, and upgrade bathrooms to improve durability and appearance. The presenter said the city solicited three quotes and recommended AHC Contracting at $83,400 over competing bids of $96,459 and $111,000.
A councilmember moved to approve the recommended contractor; another councilmember seconded the motion. The mayor called for a vote and the motion carried 5-0.
Council discussion was limited to the scope, schedule and coordination: staff said the restroom and lobby remodel will be timed to coincide with the planned closing of Dobbs Creek for resurfacing of six hardwood basketball floors, scheduled July 28–Aug. 27. The presenter did not specify the expected construction start date for the remodel or the anticipated completion date beyond that coordination.
The council’s approval authorizes the city to proceed with contract award to AHC Contracting in the amount presented and for staff to manage scheduling with the floor resurfacing.
