Revere High School’s fine-arts director told the Revere School Committee on May 20 that the school's arts programs expanded this year with new electives, increased student demand and community performances.
Director Williams (presenting) said the district added an introductory voice elective and a tech-theater class midyear; both drew growing student interest, with the district reporting freshman requests of 103 for music and expanded arts elective requests overall. The high school produced two nearly sold-out performances of Grease, with more than 1,000 tickets sold across performances, and ensembles performed outreach concerts for senior residents and community events.
A part-time jazz ensemble director, Guillermo Ortiz, was hired through a music grant to start a jazz ensemble. The school also launched three ensembles (pop, rock and jazz) and expanded middle- and elementary-level collaborations including Revere Youth Singers and district-wide showcases supported by ZoomX. Director Williams said about 307 tickets were sold across two concerts for one ensemble and that the program expects increased student participation next year.
Committee members praised the expansion and the reach of fine-arts programming and encouraged continued community engagement. The presentation was informational; the committee did not vote on related funding at the May 20 meeting.
