Garfield Elementary highlights equity-focused resource fair that connected families to 22 community partners

Garfield Elementary staff presented the Revere School Committee on May 20 with an overview of an equity-focused resource fair designed to connect families with local services and supports.
Equity team lead Adrianna Del Greco (presenting) said the resource fair began three years ago to reduce access barriers and bring community partners into the school in families’ primary languages. Kate Kelly, a school adjustment counselor, said participation grew from about 16 partners in the first year to 22 this past year and that the fair enabled many families to sign up for services on site.
Teacher Zara Martinez described activities that kept children engaged while caregivers met with organizations, including a “touch-a-truck” display, a Gaga-ball pit and a clothing pop-up offering upcycled clothing for children and adults. Leftover donated items were given to local organizations. Committee members praised turnout; one member said they distributed 400 giveaways and estimated attendance at 400–500 people.
Presenters emphasized the fair’s intent to address students’ nonacademic needs first — “guided by Maslow’s hierarchy of needs,” Del Greco said — and noted that family-to-family connections were an important outcome. The committee thanked presenters and asked few follow-up questions.
No formal action was required; the item was presented for information and recognition of community partnerships supporting student well-being.
