City staff reminded the council that applications are being accepted for the Historic Preservation Commission through the end of the month and presented a packet of applicants for two vacancies on the Tuscaloosa Public Library board.
The matters matter because appointments shape citizen oversight of local historic-preservation decisions and library governance. Staff said to date there were nine Historic Preservation Commission applicants and that two current commission members had indicated they do not want reappointment. Brandy, the staff member handling boards and commissions, told council members they had 12 applicants for two library-board vacancies and requested that councilmembers identify two to three top choices so staff could present a recommendation at a future meeting.
Council discussion also included a change to committee schedules: the council will trial a new committee structure that begins after a one-week advertisement period, and council meetings will begin at 5 p.m. going forward. Staff said committee agendas published the prior Friday will be used for the transition and that the final day for old committee assignments is the current day. The transcript shows staff asking councilmembers to ensure alternates are available for committee service. No vote on appointments was recorded; staff planned to return on June 3 with recommended appointments based on council preferences.
