A committee member asked staff for a citywide update on the automated metering infrastructure (AMI) meter upgrade project after a constituent reported not receiving advance notice for a meter change.
During the meeting the committee member said a constituent in Riverchase had a meter upgraded without prior notice and asked, “how do we normally get notice to customers?” Brian (city staff) responded, “They should receive a postcard 2 weeks in advance. And then when the contractor's out there, they should, put a door hanger up.” The committee member said the constituent reported not having been notified and asked staff to investigate.
The chair asked staff to provide an update to the committee on the metering upgrade project “kinda where we are citywide, kinda what's what's happening with that.” Brian agreed to follow up; no formal motion or vote was recorded. The discussion was recorded as a request for an informational update rather than a policy action.
The committee recorded no changes to the notification protocol at this meeting; staff said they had not received many complaints and asked for the specific address to research the reported missed notification.
