The Tuscaloosa City Council approved a restaurant liquor license for Ross Lamont Catering Company LLC, doing business as Lamont’s Bridal and Frosty, after rescinding an earlier tabling vote and reconsidering the application.
The application (ABC 25-029) was initially tabled to June 3, but the council later rescinded that tabling, moved to reconsider, and then voted to approve the license. The council heard the applicant’s plans during the reconsideration. Ross Layman, the applicant, described the business as a local Nashville hot-chicken restaurant offering fried catfish and Southern sides, plus a focus on soft-serve ice cream. He said the operation will offer beer, wine and liquor during operating hours and that the establishment will emphasize carryout and delivery services via Grubhub, DoorDash and Uber Eats.
Layman said the location is 2217 University Boulevard and listed hours as Sunday 11 a.m.–9 p.m.; closed Mondays; Tuesday–Thursday 11 a.m.–9 p.m.; and Friday–Saturday 11 a.m.–10 p.m. He said seating would be limited — he cited a building occupancy of 54 but said seated service would be about 45–46. “We’re gonna focus heavily on to-go business, Grubhub, DoorDash, Uber Eats,” Layman said.
Why it matters: the license allows the new local restaurant to serve alcohol on site and to-go in accordance with the ABC application the council approved. Police told the council they had no objection to the applicant.
Council record: the council first tabled the application, then made and passed motions to rescind the earlier tabling and to reconsider the license; after the applicant’s presentation the council voted to approve the restaurant liquor license.
Next steps: staff will complete any required administrative steps for licensure with the Alabama Alcoholic Beverage Control process and the applicant may proceed with final preparations to open.
