Council introduces ordinance to raise Johnson Park pool fees, add family and weekly passes

The Borger City Council introduced on first reading an ordinance May 20 to update the Johnson Park Youth Center fee schedule ahead of the newly renovated pool's opening.
City Manager Mister Spradley said the ordinance would raise daily admission from $2 to $3 and increase the season pass from $50 to $75. The ordinance also creates a family-group pass rate of $55 per person when three or more passes are purchased together and adds a weekly pass priced at $12 per person. Spradley said the city will continue to offer party packages and nonexclusive rental spaces but will not return to exclusive after-hours pool rentals that limit public access.
Spradley noted the pool project reached substantial completion and the city planned a ribbon-cutting and free admission day on Friday, May 30, at 2 p.m. He said pool fees historically cover a small portion of operating costs: the city budgets about $300,000 annually for park and pool salaries and currently collects about $24,000 from fees; the fee changes are expected to increase revenue modestly.
The council voted to introduce the ordinance on first reading; a future meeting will consider final adoption.
Ending: The pool is scheduled to open for the season with a free community opening day May 30; staff will return with final ordinance adoption on a later agenda.
