By resolution 2025-121 the commission awarded the demolition contract to APAC Alabama Incorporated for $301,750 and appropriated funds for the work. Staff identified the structure as the former Golden Eagle printing building at the corner of North Oaks and Troy Street and said the site will be used for construction of a City Hall annex.
City staff said the demolition is expected to require lane closures because of the building’s proximity to the right of way and that the demolition timeframe is about 30 days. A commissioner asked staff to consider preserving the building’s logo and lettering for historical purposes; staff said they would “take a look at that.”
