City opened fuel bids; staff to run numbers and refer recommendation to City Council

Kankakee City staff told the Environmental Services Utility Board that the city opened four fuel bids on May 14 and will review the close results before sending a recommendation to the City Council.
Public works staff reported there were four bidders and several bids were separated by fractions of a cent. "We had 4 different bidders, and we had a couple that were in with 1 penny of each other. Actually, just a fraction of a penny. So what we wanna do is just, run the numbers, make sure that we're a % correct on those calculations. And then our plan is to bring it back to city council on June 2, for recommendation," staff said.
Board members asked whether the bidders were local; staff said Baron Hewitt is local and that the other three appear not to be. There was no bid award or contract executed at the utility board meeting — staff planned to deliver their verified tabulation and recommendation for the June 2 City Council meeting.
No dollar amounts for per-gallon prices or contract lengths were provided during the discussion; the board did not vote on the bids at this meeting.
